In a significant regulatory update, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) has announced
revised English language test score requirements for healthcare registration applicants. The new rules will come
into effect from 23 April 2026, impacting all five accepted English proficiency tests.
Key Change: Test Date Determines Score Criteria
AHPRA has clarified that:
- Tests taken on or before 22 April 2026 will follow the existing (old) score requirements
- Tests taken from 23 April 2026 onwards must meet the new revised scores
This distinction applies regardless of when the application is submitted, making the test date critical for
all candidates.
No Change in English Proficiency Level
Despite the score adjustments, AHPRA emphasizes that the overall level of English proficiency
required remains unchanged.
Scores identical in both old and new tables — the most stable and predictable choice.
