Federation University Tops Victoria in Teaching Quality and Student Support

Federation University Australia has been named the number one university in Victoria, Australia for undergraduate teaching quality and student support, according to the newly released 2024 Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) Student Experience and Graduate Outcomes surveys.

The results mark a historic achievement for Federation, ranking in the top five nationally for the first time. Highlights of the survey include:

  • #1 in Victoria, #1 in regional Australia, and #5 in the nation for undergraduate teaching quality
  • #1 in Victoria, #2 in regional Australia, and #6 in the nation for undergraduate student support
  • #1 in Victoria for overall postgraduate employment, and #2 in Victoria for undergraduate employment outcomes
  • #1 in Victoria for median postgraduate salary, and #2 in Victoria for undergraduate salaries

The survey revealed that 83.1% of undergraduate students expressed satisfaction with teaching quality and engagement—an improvement that propelled Federation up 18 national ranking places.

Federation also excelled in student support services, covering health and wellbeing, career development, and financial assistance. 77.2% of undergraduates and 78.3% of postgraduates reported positive experiences.

In terms of graduate outcomes, the University continues to deliver strong results:

  • 95.1% of postgraduate students are employed, earning a median salary of $104,200 (up from $94,500 in 2023).
  • 88.3% of undergraduates are in work, with a median salary of $75,700 (up from $71,400 in 2023).

Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Duncan Bentley said the rankings reflect the University’s commitment to aligning its courses with the needs of students and communities.

The QILT surveys, encompassing both the Student Experience Survey and Graduate Outcomes Survey, are Australia’s only comprehensive higher education performance benchmarks. More information is available at www.qilt.edu.au
