Ontario has issued more than 900 invitations to candidates under its Provincial Nominee Program (OINP), targeting
Master’s and PhD graduates in its latest draw held on April 22, 2026.
This development highlights Canada’s continued focus on retaining highly educated international graduates as part
of its long-term immigration strategy.
Details of the Latest Draw
In this round, Ontario issued a total of 918 invitations across two graduate streams:
- Master’s Graduate Stream – 674 invitations
- Master’s Graduate Stream – 244 invitations
The draw focused on candidates who had registered profiles within the OINP system during the past year.
No Job Offer Requirement
One of the key highlights of this draw is that no job offer was required for candidates to receive an invitation
This makes Ontario’s graduate streams one of the most accessible pathways to permanent residence (PR) for
international students who have completed advanced degrees in the province.
Eligibility Criteria Snapshot
To be considered under these streams, candidates typically must:
- Hold a Master’s or PhD degree from an eligible Ontario institution
- Demonstrate language proficiency
- Show proof of sufficient settlement funds
- Intend to reside in Ontario
What This Means for International Students
The latest draw reinforces Ontario’s commitment to:
- Retaining international graduates
- Addressing labour market needs
- Supporting long-term economic growth
For students planning to study in Canada, especially in Ontario, this pathway offers a clear route from
education to permanent residency.
Canada’s Ongoing Immigration Focus
Canada continues to prioritize skilled immigration through both federal and provincial programs. Graduate-focused
streams such as these play a crucial role in attracting global talent and supporting regional workforce demands.
Guidance for Prospective Students
Students considering Canada as a study destination may benefit from:
- Choosing postgraduate programs aligned with immigration pathways
- Staying informed about provincial nomination opportunities
- Planning long-term settlement strategies early
