Singapore Launches First Integrated Nursing Informatics Degree
Singapore’s National University of Singapore has launched the country’s first integrated Nursing Informatics degree, combining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a Master of Science in Biomedical Informatics. Developed by the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies in collaboration with the NUS School of Computing, the program prepares a digitally skilled nursing workforce capable of integrating patient care with data analytics, artificial intelligence, and healthcare technology. Students can complete both degrees in 4.5 years while gaining expertise in digital health systems, analytics, and hospital management.

The healthcare industry is witnessing a growing shift toward digital integration, where clinical expertise must now include technological knowledge. For nursing professionals and students, this advancement is creating a demand for talented professionals who can easily adapt to an AI-driven ecosystem and complex data structures. Recognizing this rapid advancement, the National University of Singapore (NUS) has introduced first-of-its-kind concurrent degree program in Nursing Informatics, preparing an intelligent workforce that is as proficient with data as they are with patient care.
The program was launched at the opening ceremony of East Asian Forum of Nursing Scholars (EAFONS) in late February 2026. This program is a collaboration between the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies (NUS Nursing) and the NUS School of Computing. It is designed to produce a digitally specialized nursing workforce capable of leading in an era of Artificial Intelligence and big data.
How the Program Works
The integrated degree program will combine the existing Bachelor of Science in Nursing honours program and Master of Science in Biomedical Informatics. This will allow students to complete both bachelor’s and master’s together. The most significant benefit of this integrated curriculum is that the students will be able to graduate in just 4.5 years, which is at least six months earlier than completing the degrees separately. This approach will spare them a lot of time and cost, and the graduates will be able to join the workforce with advanced expertise.
The integrated curriculum will be covering topics such as data analytics clinical decision support, health information system design and management, as well as ethics, privacy and cybersecurity in digital healthcare.
Your Study Options
The integrated curriculum is designed to deliver hands-on experiences to its students, reflecting the complex nature of modern healthcare teams. It allows students to choose from two specializations:
- Analytics: For those who want to study and use data to improve patient outcomes.
- Hospital Management: For those interested in leading and supervising digital systems and hospital operations.
New Job Opportunities
Unlike traditional career pathways in clinical practise and education, nursing informatics significantly expands its range of roles. It introduces healthcare technology and management to its academics. This allows the graduates to gain advances expertise in patient care and technology, and provides them the opportunity to take on emerging roles in healthcare technology such as
- Clinical Informatics Specialists
- Digital Health Project Managers
- Healthcare Data Analysts
- Electronic Health Record (EHR) Implementation Consultants
By bridging the gap between patient care and digital systems, this program ensures that healthcare technology is designed and utilized in a way that truly supports the nursing workflow.
Graduates will be able to evaluate and lead in real clinical ecosystems, making sure that tools like AI and electronic records ensure quality in patient care and ease the workload for nurses.
