Australia Opens Doors for Indian Graduates Through MATES Visa Program

In a major move to strengthen educational and professional ties between India and Australia, the Australian Government has officially launched the Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-professionals Scheme (MATES Visa) — a new pathway that allows eligible Indian graduates to live and work in Australia for up to two years, without the need for a prior job offer.

The MATES Visa is designed for Indian citizens aged between 18 and 30 years, who have recently graduated in STEM fields — Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This initiative is part of the Australia–India Migration and Mobility Partnership Arrangement, aiming to enhance bilateral cooperation and create global career opportunities for young professionals.

Under this scheme, selected applicants can work and gain valuable international exposure in Australia, contributing to industries that are vital to the country’s innovation and development goals. The program provides a flexible work option that enables early-career Indian professionals to expand their skill sets and experience Australian workplace culture.

Speaking about the opportunity, education and migration experts noted that the MATES Visa will open up a new chapter for Indian graduates seeking international experience, career growth, and cultural exchange.
