Important Update for IQNM Applicants: Timelines to Avoid Application Inactivity

August 18, 2025

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) has outlined strict timelines for Internationally Qualified Nurses and Midwives (IQNMs) to ensure their application remains active throughout the registration process.

1. MCQ (NCLEX-RN) Exam Authorisation

  • Applicants must be authorised by AHPRA to sit the MCQ exam within 180 days (6 months) of either:
    • Receiving their Portfolio Outcome, or
    • Receiving a fail notification email from AHPRA regarding a previous MCQ attempt.

2. OSCE Eligibility and Payment

  • After clearing the MCQ exam and becoming eligible for the OSCE, candidates must make the OSCE payment within 120 days.

3. Final Registration

  • Once the OSCE is successfully completed, candidates must apply for final registration within 90 days.

Failure to meet these deadlines may result in the IQNM application becoming inactive, requiring re-application and delays in the registration process.
